Saxon Bar Lift (2-Inch)

Official Rules

This lift is restricted to the Raw classification. Equipped attempts are not permitted or recorded. The rules of the Deadlift apply. The Saxon Bar Lift, 2-inch (51 mm) rectangular bar must meet the following specifications:

  • The 2-Inch Bar: The grip area size of the bar is 2-inch x 5-inch (51 mm x 127 mm), where the width must be a minimum of 2 inches (51 mm) with a 5-inch (127 mm) height.
  • The gripping surface (length) of the bar must be between 40 inches (102 cm) minimum and 80 inches (203 cm)

The sleeves of the bar must not rotate, and the bar cannot have any knurling on it. The bar must be straight and weighed exactly. A metal rectangular bar of 2-inch (51 mm) must be used. The metal bar may be raw metal (unfinished) or the metal bar may be painted. Dry chalk or liquid chalk can be used on the lifter’s hands, but no other gripping adhesive is allowed (tacky resin or stone tacky is specifically disallowed). The bar must be gripped with the knuckles on both hands facing away from the body with a double overhand grip. The athlete must complete the lift with knees locked and the bar motionless. When the head official gives the “Down” command the bar must be returned to the platform while maintaining the grip and contact with the bar. Resting the bar on the thighs is not allowed and will be ruled an infraction. Officials Commands: Down

VI.D. Deadlift Rules

The lifter must face the front of the platform with the bar horizontally in front of the lifter’s feet, gripped with an alternate or double overhand grip in both hands and lifted until the lifter is standing erect.

On completing the lift, the knees shall be locked in a straight position and the shoulders erect with the shoulders, hips and ankles in a straight vertical body position. At the completion of the lift, the Head Referee will say “Down!” The command will not be given until the bar is held motionless and the lifter is in the upright/vertical finished position.

Once the attempt has begun no downward movement of the bar is allowed until the lifter reaches the erect/vertical position with the knees locked.

1. Causes for Disqualification of a Deadlift

  • Any downward movement of the bar before it reaches the final position.
  • Failure to stand erect/vertical with the shoulders back.
  • Failure to lock the knees straight at the completion of the lift.
  • Stepping backward or forward or moving the feet laterally.
  • Foot movement after the command “Down” will not be cause for failure.
  • Lowering the bar before receiving the Head Referee’s command.
  • Releasing the bar and not returning the bar to the platform under control.
  • Failure to comply with any of the items outlined under the Rules of Performance.
