18-Inch Trap Bar Deadlift
Official Rules
The rules of the Trap Bar Deadlift apply except that the bottom of the bar height will be no more than 18 inches (45.7 cm) off the ground. The Trap Bar may be supported on blocks or any stable support system to elevate the bar. Officials Commands: Down
The rules of the Deadlift apply with these exceptions. A trap bar will be used, and the lifter must stand inside the trap bar to perform the lift.
VI.D. Deadlift Rules
The lifter must face the front of the platform with the bar horizontally in front of the lifter’s feet, gripped with an alternate or double overhand grip in both hands and lifted until the lifter is standing erect.
On completing the lift, the knees shall be locked in a straight position and the shoulders erect with the shoulders, hips and ankles in a straight vertical body position. At the completion of the lift, the Head Referee will say “Down!” The command will not be given until the bar is held motionless and the lifter is in the upright/vertical finished position.
Once the attempt has begun no downward movement of the bar is allowed until the lifter reaches the erect/vertical position with the knees locked.
1. Causes for Disqualification of a Deadlift
- Any downward movement of the bar before it reaches the final position.
- Failure to stand erect/vertical with the shoulders back.
- Failure to lock the knees straight at the completion of the lift.
- Stepping backward or forward or moving the feet laterally.
- Foot movement after the command “Down” will not be cause for failure.
- Lowering the bar before receiving the Head Referee’s command.
- Releasing the bar and not returning the bar to the platform under control.
- Failure to comply with any of the items outlined under the Rules of Performance.
